Antwerp welcomes Plug and Play Maritime Innovation Platform

The renowned global innovation platform Plug and Play anchors in Antwerp, to team up with 5 partners: the City of Antwerp, CMB, DXC Technology, Euronav, and Port of Antwerp. Together, they introduce Plug and Play Maritime. This program connects the 5 Founding Partners to international startups. The purpose is to pilot their technologies and continue as world-class leaders in maritime R&D and innovation.

Plug and Play Maritime will be situated at the pre-campus of Maritime Campus Antwerp. The launch event is planned for June 2021.

Startup collaboration at the local and global level

Plug and Play, based in Silicon Valley, is an international network of over 30,000 startups. Saeed Amidi, Founder and CEO: "Our first maritime platform in Antwerp represents the beginning of a new ‘voyage‘ for us at Plug and Play. Open Innovation enables tech that will shape the future of Maritime

By providing innovation-as-a-service, Plug and Play will have a strategic role for the 5 Founding Partners in pioneering a sustainable maritime industry for the future. Together, they will scout international startups who focus on clean fuels and energy, big data and Internet of Things, future logistics, efficient shipping, autonomous vessels, sensors, and more. 

Further offerings for startups and partners include business development, dealflows, workshops, weekly mentorship sessions, networking between partners, investment opportunities, and a series of monthly events including Selection Days, Innovation Days and EXPO Days.

Plug and Play Maritime offers a wide range of services to entrepreneurs

The basis of Plug and Play Maritime will be the 12-week open innovation program, run twice a year. Each program welcomes 20+ selected international startups that are addressing the specific technological needs of the Founding Partners. The startups and business units of the partners will work together on pilots and proof of concepts, leading towards production-ready implementations. The goal is to have at least one joint project completed for each startup. These projects will be showcased at EXPO Day, the final event at the end of each program.

Once more, the City and the Port of Antwerp join forces

The City and the Port of Antwerp show their ambitions to excel in circular and digital economy in many initiatives, such as the digital innovation hub The Beacon. With Plug and Play, this collaboration gets a new, yet logical dimension. The City wants to be part of the European top of scale-up cities by 2025. And the port is a hub for the maritime industry with a longstanding tradition. The ecosystem represented by the Plug and Play Maritime platform, is an ideal testbed for technology on a large scale.
