CDIO at Port of Antwerp
Erwin Verstraelen works at Port of Antwerp, combining the role of CIO and CDO, a role which was only created last year. He applies a clear strategic vision in the port's digitisation. ‘It is a real honour to be named CIO of the Year,' says Verstraelen. ‘This means lots of extra support in the further digitisation of the port and logistics sector. IT is a means by which to achieve a final goal and that final goal is digital innovation.’
The port’s digital strategy
A digital network with intelligent cameras, sensors and drones is being installed in the port of Antwerp. Furthermore, Verstraelen also plays an active part in the Port Authority's role of community builder. Indeed, the Port Authority wishes to help port companies in embracing digital innovation. Initiatives like PortXL (accelerator for the maritime sector), The Beacon (ecosystem relating to AI and IoT) and Chainport (collaboration with other world ports) are all part of this strategy. NxtPort, the port's data platform, is involved as well.
